Adolescent Sports Injuries

Sports participation is becoming more prevalent among young children and adults. Intensity is also increasing as more is expected at younger age (‘catch them young’). Consequently sports injuries are becoming common amongst adolescent. Injuries take different forms. Acute injuries are easy to diagnose but chronic injuries can remain undiagnosed for months and have the potential of causing lasting damage to growing skeleton.

One should look for the following and seek advice:

1. Inability to play following an acute or sudden injury

2. Decreased ability to play because of chronic or long-term complications following an injury

3. Visible deformity of the athlete's arms or legs

  1. 4.Severe pain from acute injuries which prevent the use of an arm or leg
